Morning After

Morning After was written by Steve’s earlier band, Peer Pressure. The idea was create a song that was basically three chords since songs like Wild Thing, What I Like About You, Gloria, and others had become hits. Steve had been listening to Helter Skelter by The Beatles and liked the E7 chord for the basic riff with some variation in rhythm. Brandon wrote some abstract lyrics and Vic made a nice flowing bass line, and of course Dave did his thing on drums.

When Steve and Moss were recording Morning After in the summer of 2025, Steve wrote a second guitar part for slide guitar in Open G tuning, and young Match Grip (Moss’s nickname) just plain jammed on drums! With no bass player Steve had to fill in on bass guitar too. Fortunately, after years of jamming with Garageband Steve’s voice had developed enough to sing lead. Moss, Jojo and Morris recorded the backing vocals. Jojo was a little taken back by Steve’s anal producer roll when he demanded specific annunciation on the background vocals, especially “a little button” but the gang did great, and you’ve got to love Logic Pro’s takes function 😅.
